Hedi Slimane x Prada x The Clash

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

hedi-slimane-prada-amber-homme-ad-campaign-1.jpg

Dazed has uploaded these stunning images shot by the ex-Dior Homme designer Hedi Slimane for Prada Parfums’ release of their first male fragrance in Prada Amber. The classic black and white photography is slightly reminiscent of the Jil Sander ads with the beautiful tousled boys in crisp shirts and evokes a similarly subdued mood.

But that’s where the similarities end, while there was a pan euro feel to the aforementioned menswear ads, these pique polos and T’s smack of a rude boy, distinctly English, aplomb. Which is perfectly in keeping with the young models, Louis and Claude Simonon, the progeny of Paul and Tricia Simonon, the bass player and manager (respectively) of The Clash.

I’m On a Boat! Hermès X Wally

why14.jpg

Upon first stumbling on word of this collaborative effort, I, perhaps with many others amongst you, thought the horse-drawn luxury leather goods house famous for their Kellys, Birkins, waiting lists, and all but OWNING that particular shade of orange, had partnered with another leather goods shoppe and made really, really fancy Wallabees for me and my friends. But I wasn’t seeing the big (expensive) picture.

In no less exciting news, Wally YACHTS has partnered with Hermès to create an inordinately decadent yet socially conscious vessel. It’s an eco-friendly luxury liner and if the pictures are as close as you’ll likely get, indulge.

Style & Rhetoric crush: Ligne Roset 2010

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

dznligneroset01.jpg

French furniture design house Ligne Roset purveys a characteristically elegant collection in their 2010 offerings.

Notables include the “Confluences” series by French designer Philippe Nigro which can be seen in full, glorious detail via dezeen here.

But it’s not just clever form that makes Ligne Roset so darn swoon-worthy. It’s their cogent philosophies behind the function that make them magnificent.

“How can one design a settee which satisfies the requirements of the majority of users? Different people have different physiognomies. And then there is the subjectivity of taste. CONFLUENCES is a ‘reconciliatory’ settee, since it draws its inspiration from such differences.”

Basically, it’s bespoke in the final design since it’s modular. Which in layman’s terms can be best described as “Tetris-ish” and therefore “fits anyone/anywhere.”

Maus Haus Almost Open!

Only two short days before the magical kingdom that is The Walt Disney Family Museum finally opens to the public after SIX long years of preparation.

While people who have long abandoned the joys of chocolate enrobed mouse-shaped ice cream bars and have forgotten how to wonder and marvel may not be impressed, this is not just some hallowed hallway replete with animation cells.

“There are a caseful of Academy Awards, doodles by the artist Salvador Dali and a replica of the ambulance Disney drove in Neufchateau, France, just after World War I.”

It also houses some of the truly magical things like the above which showcases Disney’s fascination with animatronics and wind-up plush toys.

In the wake of a spectacular London fashion week, in tandem with AnOther Magazine—the biannual tome published by the persistently incredible folks at Dazed & Confused and AnOther Man—club kid demagogue/fashion designer Gareth Pugh has unveiled his collaboration with colette and the ubiquitous (and super functional!) Mac sheath makers Incase.

Available at colette among other egregiously cool boutiques all over the world, the design emblazoned on the super limited-edition 13″ MacBook Pro sleeve and iPhone 3GS Slider Case and are based on a fractal of Pugh’s infamous star print.

Mauro Perucchetti: The Decadence of War

Friday, September 25th, 2009

thumb_3164_c7e8536fc26c14c256dde326866cb605.jpg

Italian pop artist Mauro Perucchetti’s sense of irony and wit is perfectly encapsulated by the dichotomy of brightly hued, childhood images like the beloved candy Jelly Belly, juxtaposed with themes of war, greed, and destruction. His crystal-encursted sculptures pithily embody his belief that war is an inane luxury. More pictures after the jump.

lagerfeld-tokidoki-figure-1.jpg

Tokidoki, which means “sometimes” in Japanese and is the brainchild of Italian artist Simone Legno, has unveiled their latest toy in the likeness of the dark genius, Chanel overlord Karl Lagerfeld. Typically known for vibrant and cute figures that look like adorable dogs or anthropomorphized milk cartons, this is certainly a curveball. A brilliant one at that. Karl is one of 1,000 and can be copped for $185 at colette.

Stop-Motion Animation With A Google Street View

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

A super-cute, Wall-E style animation created for Google Japan harkens back to the stop-motion era. Totally reminds me of the claymations of my youth that were simultaneously cute, creepy, and not a little bit lonely.
