Farrows designs have appeared in the chicest of boutiques, on runway models and in fashion magazines for years. Dirty Car Art

Did you ever used to doodle on your parents dirty car windows? You’d write your initials or a smiley face and your parents would yell at you screaming something about how it would never wash off? Well, I don’t think Scott Wade’s parents yelled at him. Wade, an artist from Texas, lived on a dirt road growing up and found his canvas on car windows. In addition to using his fingers, Wade uses brushes and popsicle sticks to create his dust art. Check out some more of Wade’s Dirty Car Gallery at Wash Me.

The Balloon Project

It may look like David Trawin and Scotty Albrecht of PROCESS are simply taking pictures of New York City from a hot air balloon- but that’s just an allusion. Along with their technical director Josh Roxas, the guys were able to snap photos by hanging a camera from a bunch of helium balloons and letting them fly. The aerial balloon camera went up to 500 feet in the air taking photos of the stock exchange, private rooftops, and battery park amongst other Manhattan sights. The guys also say there are more flights to come. To follow their progress and learn more about the project check out PROCESS.

apple-2.png

On November 15th, 2008 gather your troops and start filming because you have 24 hours to make and upload your 3-minute movie. Apple, one of the world’s biggest multinational corporations, are the creators of the 2008 Insomnia Film Festival that begins next month. Once the 24 hours is over you’ll need to spend even more time getting everyone you know to watch and rate your film online. What’s the catch you ask? Well, if your movie makes the top 25 you can host a movie showing at the Apple Retail store and your film will be downloadable from iTunes. More importantly, industry honchos like John August, Greg Mattola, Masi Oka, Jason Bateman and others will also be viewing your films. If the public or the pros give your movie the #1 rating the grand prize is yours. To register your team and view the rules and regulations for the event go here. Not bad for a night without sleep.

Susan Jane Belton may have an obsession with coffee. Her most recent project, displayed at George Billis Gallery, was inspired by the varied decaying coffee cups she has strewn around her studios. Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and even indie Brooklyn Coffee Shops all make Belton’s cut. The coffee cup paintings have also been displayed in Boston and California. Frappuccino, latte or regular brew? Belton’s paintings have something for everyone’s coffee break

Marshmallow Art

Brooklyn based artist Derek Buckner used to paint freeways, airplanes and trucks. As you can see from the above picture, Buckner has explored an entirely new subject for his most recent project: Marshmallows. Buckner used oil paints to create tumbling heaps of white marshmallows that are simultaneously humorous, somewhat grotesque and somehow beautiful.  To create these paintings the artist spend nearly a year purchasing bags of marshmallows, scattering them around his apartment and examining them in different angles and light sources. The mashmallows paintings were recently displayed at the George Billis Gallery in NYC.

The Chanel Pavilion

Iraqi-born architect Zaha Hadid has created a pavilion that is designed to display artworks that were inspired by Chanel’s 2.55 handbag. The building is mysterious, delusional and can easily be dismantled and shipped to the next city on it’s global tour. For now, until November 9th, the pavilion will be shown in Central Park and you do not want to miss it. The building is created from hundreds of fiberglass panels mounted on a skeletal steel frame and was first shown in Hong Kong in February. Visitors enter one at a time, receive their own MP3 players and is taken on a personal journey that finds a way to collaborate art and architechture. Read more about the Chanel Pavilion on the New York Times website.

snyder.png snyder-2.png

Jason Snyder can do it all. Spending most of his childhood on a farm in Pennsylvania, Jason learned to study his surroundings and transfer his ideas about the world into art. Snyder is completely self taught and has spent his entire life developing his unique style and interpretation of reality. In each one of his pieces Snyder uses vibrant colors and distorted figures to convey an idea about the world around him. His “Say Whaaat!” exhibit has been shown in Washington, DC while his t-shirts, skateboards and other products can be found on his website.  Snyder’s motto, “In each one of my pieces I explore one aspect of the human spirit; how it manifests itself and how it may affect others.”
