Barry McGee Houston Street Mural

August 31st, 2010

After Shepard Fairey and Os Gemeos, it was the turn of Barry McGee to paint the Houston Street Mural and the outcome is raw and somewhat unexpected, yet with a very strong message lying underneath it.

“In an amazing twist, life imitated art in New York Sunday night when Barry McGee and crew descended on the Houston Street wall. Beginning at midnight, McGee, together with longtime collaborator Josh Lazcano (Amaze), began a massive spray-painting spree, bombarding the surface with hundreds of simple red tags. Working through the cover of night, the team created the ultimate graffiti writer’s roll call and a strangely beautiful, if not challenging piece of commissioned abstract art.

By 4am (with some added contributions from Chino) Twist and Amaze had completely filled in the wall with the names and crews of graffiti writers past and present.”

The scene was very busy the entire night, you can read up on the entire story over atTheArtCollectors.

Zosen’s ‘System Collapse’ At StolenSpace

August 12th, 2010
Barcelona based street artist Zosen brings his premier UK solo show to StolenSpace this week. Featuring a collection of new paintings on canvas and the release of a limited edition screen print.
Born in Buenos Aires, Zosen developed his art practice on the streets since he was 11 and in 2001 became a long time member of Barcelona’s infamous ONG (Ovejas NeGras or ‘Black Sheep’) crew. Zosen continues to expand his creative practice with performance, illustration, video and collaborations with artists across the globe and he is co-founder of the street wear label, “Animal Bandido” with designer Clàudia Font.
System Collapse is a colourful vision of the world around us and an incisive commentary on the current state of the world’s economy. The distinctive lettering styles, loosely influenced by the artwork of the punk and the ‘do-it-yourself’ movements of the 70’s-80’s, the illusory characters and bright, pure colours reflect a hopeful optimism while the meanings of the words, real and conceived, provide a complex context for a creative discharge of conscience.

60 Foot Gundam Time Lapse Video

August 5th, 2010

We posted about the giant Gundam statue in Shizuoka City here. Now we found a cool time-lapse video of the statue that has been officially unveiled last week. The thing even shoots out gases to look like it’s about to take off and kick some butt! It’s pretty much safe to say that almost every asian boy had a Gundam figure as a child, this is just a childhood becoming reality. Finally, Gundam can protect Japan against Godzilla.
